The search for missing 3-year-old Elijah Vue has tragically come to a heartbreaking end. On September 13, Two Rivers Police Chief Benjamin Meinnert confirmed that the skeletal remains discovered on September 7 in a remote wooded area were indeed those of Elijah. This news marks a devastating conclusion to a months-long search that captivated the community of northeast Wisconsin. "It is with a heavy heart that I announce today, those remains were identified as Elijah Vue's," Meinnert said during a press briefing shared on Facebook. The remains were found by a landowner preparing for the hunting season, approximately three miles northwest of where Elijah was last seen. The area, which had been extensively searched before, was described by Meinnert as a "thick wooded area." The tragic discovery came after extensive efforts by volunteers and law enforcement, who had combed through marshy areas, river banks, and even a cemetery in search of the young boy. The amber alert issued for Elijah has now been canceled, and the case has officially become a death investigation. David Berthiaume, a local resident who assisted in the search, expressed his frustration and sorrow. "There won't be closure for me until we know who killed him and put him there," Berthiaume said. "Nothing killed him back there in those woods. He was killed and put there." Elijah was reported missing on February 20. At the time, his mother, Katrina Baur, was in Wisconsin Dells, while her boyfriend, Jesse Vang, was at his residence on Mischot Road in Two Rivers. Vang reported Elijah missing, claiming he had fallen asleep and awoke to find the child gone. Both Vang and Baur have been charged with child neglect, and Vang faces additional felony charges. They have both pleaded not guilty. In April, it was reported that Baur had left Elijah with Vang for extended periods as a form of discipline, a claim outlined in a criminal complaint. This background has further complicated the case, as the circumstances of Elijah's disappearance and death come under greater scrutiny. Two Rivers resident Roy Randall, who lives near where Elijah's remains were found, shared his anguish. "It's just really rough," Randall said. "You don't expect something like this to hit so close to home. It's too close to home." As the community mourns the loss of a young life and grapples with the details of this tragic case, authorities continue to investigate. The focus now shifts to seeking justice for Elijah Vue and uncovering the full truth behind his untimely death. Authorities are asking community members to avoid the area where the remains were discovered while the investigation continues. Anyone with information related to the case is encouraged to contact the Two Rivers Police Department. Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE?
