'The word of the Lord that came unto Hosea, the son of Beeri, in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Joash, king of Israel. The beginning of the word of the Lord by Hosea. And the Lord said to Hosea, Go, take unto thee a wife of whoredoms and children of whoredoms: for the land hath committed great whoredom, departing from the Lord . So he went and took Gomer the daughter of Diblaim; which conceived, and bare him a son. ' Hosea 1:1-3 SERMON NOTES: The role of the prophet in the Old Testament was to bring forth warning and correction God uses Hosea and a harlot named Gomer to illustrate his relationship with us. Who does Hosea represent in the story? - God Who are we in the story? - The Harlot Hosea 2:5 - shows us that it is a pursuit of material things Falsely converted will cause us to run back to the world like Gomer Are you still attracted to the things of this world? Any time we elevate anything above God causes us to have harlotry in our heart. Hosea 3 - shows us just how God loves us. If you cannot see who you are in the story you will not be able to receive the redeeming transformational love of God. Have you truly been redeemed by the transformational love God provides for us?
