'and said, “If you diligently heed the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians. For I am the Lord who heals you.”' Exodus 15:26 There is a spirit of terror thanks to Corona virus, even though flu is more pervasive and has killed far more people just this season (flu: 18,000 people; Corona: 1 person). We should be more attuned to spiritual viruses than physical. I. Spiritual Immunity With physical viruses, some are more immune than others. When babies are born, we immediately start giving them vaccines. We can take all the precautions possible and still get infected with a spiritual virus. II. Examples of Spiritual Viruses FEAR It’s more than a physical “fight or flight” reaction. This virus stopped God’s people from entering the Promised Land. Fear is hyper-contagious in churches, especially in churches. God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind. FALSE DOCTRINES Jesus warns that false doctrine speaks like yeast in bread In the case of Pharisees & Sadducees, the false doctrine was that human tradition is just as or more important than the Word of God & the Will of God. SEXUAL SIN This has infected our entire generation, earlier and earlier than ever. Even old people are addicted to pornography. There is NO PAIN like the pain of sexual sin; it affects the body & the soul. This MUST BE JUDGED in the church - Paul says “deliver such a one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh.” III. Increasing Immunity 1. What can we do to increase our immunity to spiritual viruses? 1. Worship God (sing, pray) 2. Read the Bible 3. Be in Church - don’t forsake the assembly 4. Tithes & Offering 5. Witness/Evangelism 6. Holiness (don’t be unequally yoked with unbelievers) 7. Do the Will of God 2. Once you’re infected, you’re less immune to other viruses. 1. Being infected by one virus (I.e. false doctrine) makes you more susceptible to sexual sin. 3. We need another inoculation 1. It would be foolish to go the doctor and then refuse treatment. 2. People do that in church all the time - God shows them the virus, but they refuse to be cleansed. 3. We must draw near to God, resist the devil. Want to receive text updates from our church?
