What's the state of play before the federal election?

At the crack of dawn the Prime Minister made an early morning trip to Yarralumla to meet with the Governor-General Sam Mostyn.   The ABC understands he's about to call the federal election for the 3rd of May - setting up a 5 week election campaign.
