An inquiry into the worsening rental crisis in Australia has heard moving testimony about the impact of unaffordable rent hikes, evictions and poor building standards on renters. Earlier this month the national cabinet unveiled a new plan to fix this crisis, which the prime minister, Anthony Albanese, calls ‘a better deal for renters’.
