Ever considered how the food you eat impacts your skin?    In this episode of The Darin Olien podcast, Benjamin Knight Fuchs and I explore the profound links between nutrition and skincare. As a pharmacist, he shares insights into how the principles used to promote muscle growth can be applied to skin health. We discuss the detriments of ultra-processed food on our skin and overall health and the need for a health revolution. We need to make a shift from external cosmetic products and surgeries to a lifestyle enriched with proper nutrition.    We also tackle the misconception of beauty products and the risks of an excessive reliance on external products to resolve our skin issues. Instead, we need to look at raw living foods that are rich in nutrients and beneficial for both our overall health and our skin.   Benjamin Knight Fuchs is a registered pharmacist, nutritionist and skin care chemist. For the past 35 years, he’s been developing pharmacy-potent skin health products for estheticians, dermatologists, plastic surgeons and his own savvy customers. He formulated Truth Treatment Systems™ because he saw the need for topical treatments that worked with the biochemistry of the skin. His products augment and enabled dermal processes at the skin cell (not surface) level.    What we discuss:    02:10: How did Darin and Benjamin meet? 04:35: What is missing in today’s beauty products? 11:38: What is the number one most searched skincare ingredient? 14:19: What do most people not realize about their skin? 21:53: Why is moisturizer bad for your skin? 29:20: What’s the difference between alpha hydroxy acids and hylaronic acid?  31:26: What is the most dangerous chemical we apply on our skin regularly? 34:10: What’s the difference between sunscreen and sunblock? 36:30: What is the role of melanin in our skin? 40:02: What is the role of melatonin in our health?   Key Takeaway:   The viable living cells in your skin are down at the bottom and not at the top. At the top of your skin, or the skin that is exposed to the external world, is really only dead skin. Thus, if you really want to change your skin, you've got adopt strategies that help the ingredients from the surface make their way down to the lower levels, where the living cells are.     Most people think that a lack of collagen, calcium, or peptides are the reason why they are aging. As a result, they tend to supplement these nutrients. However, the real nutrient they should be focusing on replenishing is Vitamin C.  Vitamin C is the quintessential anti-aging vitamin. It builds the connective tissue and restores the body back to its useful state and eliminates the problems that people all the people have when they age. You ever see how a person walks when they're aging and their bones are soft and their skin is loose? All that are signs of connective tissue deterioration, which a lack of Vitamin C can be responsible for.    When you exercise, your body secretes chemicals which will activate and connect the tissue in your face. Thus, when you lift weights, you're actually stimulating collagen in your face. However,  you can also exercise the skin topically.  This is because exercising only helps with the top layer of the skin.  If you want to treat the skin cells that are at the lower levels, you need to go further than that.  Think about it this way: we know that when you exercise the muscles, you're tearing the muscles up and then the muscles grow back. Well, the skin has its own version of tearing up the muscles. It’s called exfoliation. With exfoliation, you are removing dead cells off of the surface, and sending signals down the lower living cells that they can pump new cells to the top, revealing newer looking and more radiant skin.       To learn more about Benjamin:   Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/truth.treatments/ Shop Truth Treatments with code DARIN10: https://truth360pro.com/collections/frontpage?ba=c-darin-olien   Find more from Darin:   Website: https://darinolien.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/Darinolien/ Book: https://darinolien.com/fatal-conveniences-book/ Down to Earth: https://darinolien.com/down-to-earth/   Thank you to our sponsors:   Shop Therasage and use code DARIN to save 15% on your purchase: https://therasage.com/pages/shop   Shop Bite and use code DARIN20 to save 20% on your Bite subscription: https://trybite.com/darin
