Hello Heathens! Today’s episode of Talk Heathen is brought to you by just stay safe out there friends. Eric Murphy is joined by a dear friend, Rudy Bee (aka: EXCultBaby) Welcome Rudy! The first caller is a returning caller, Nindo from New York. He is calling in to complain about his call and how he was perceived last week (and this week it seems.) He is refusing to recognize how his ideas and the way he provided them contributed to the way he was and is treated. Aw, poor baby. Next up, Joseph from Nevada would like to talk about atheist forums and how he is seen as a troll on these forums. He claims he enjoys challenging atheist worldviews and also claims “all atheists are evolutionists.” He then attempts to discredit the scientific method, evolution, and take the Richard Dawkins quote about aliens out of context. This quote again. Sigh. Rudy said it best: “Your personal incredulity does not invalidate centuries of scientific research.” Jesse would like to talk about answered prayer and miracles. Is there evidence for answered prayers? At what rate is it answered and can it be testable for evidence? Does it matter what or who one is praying to? Oh, it only works for Christians? Oof. Ray is wondering if atheists and Christians can find common ground. I would love it if that were to happen, but I’d also love it if Christians didn’t use their personal beliefs to infringe on others’ rights. Will in California would like to talk about the Unmoved Mover cosmological argument and Thomas Aquinas. There can't be an infinite regress: therefore God. Um, no. Here we go with the long-winded philosophy.Toni is calling in talking about rough times and how to get through them once you leave faith. Seek out support groups, make friends, go to conferences, find your community online, and if you can’t find a community, start one! Iif you have the time, volunteer for Recovering from Religion’s hotline project. You are not alone. https://www.recoveringfromreligion.org & https://www.seculartherapy.org/Andy is wondering how you can falsify nonbelief. What? Is there any basis or legitimacy to belief or nonbelief? It sounds like he is trying to falsify a negative and I’m not sure if that’s how it works. The conversation moves on to solipsism. BOY!Kaitlyn is calling in about her journey and struggle getting out of religion. She is so close and Rudy recommends she read the bible without any preconceived notions and see how it really is. Kaitlyn, it takes time, you will stumble a bit and relearn some things, but it’s a journey. Best of luck to you!And that’s our show today folks!Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/talk-heathen--3195702/support.
