Screwtape's 5th Letter: Does God care about my suffering?

Screwtape's 5th letter looks at how faith is built up or torn down in times of war and conflict; and while it may have been written in the context of the Second World War, Lewis' work has not lost its potency or relevance for today's audience. News headlines remind us of the stark contrast of war and suffering against the hopeful invitation we're painted in the gospel. The numbers of lives lost are thousands of individual grieving souls, crying out in agony in this broken world. Does God see them? Does He care about our suffering? What's more – does He even understand it?
